At Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services, we’ve had an action-packed start to 2024!

We’re excited to embark on several new outreach efforts this year, including expanding our partnership with the Hamilton County 513Relief Bus and providing eligibility assessments in more community locations. Thanks to grant funding from DODD, we are also able to offer accessible restrooms and changing areas at community events, partner with Cincinnati Parks and Children’s Hospital to support accessible activities at local parks, and provide opportunities for advocates to attend training and advocacy events. I’ll share more information about these initiatives as we make progress throughout the year.

In celebration of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in March, we partnered with the Hamilton County 513Relief Bus to host Accessible Hamilton County at our Kingsley building. The event included fun activities, music, medical screenings, opportunities to connect with providers, free meals and produce, and so much more. Accessible Hamilton County was a huge success, and I was glad to see so many of you there!

This year is also significant because the five-year levy that funds our services will be on the ballot for renewal in November. As part of that process, we provided updates on our work to the Hamilton County Tax Levy Review Committee (TLRC) in February. An independent consulting firm, along with the TLRC, is currently reviewing our operations to ensure we’re providing high-quality services and responsibly managing taxpayer funding. We also shared information about our agency with the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners earlier this week. I’ll continue to provide updates, and we look forward to working with the TLRC members, the consultants, and the county commissioners throughout this process.

We have so many incredible things in store this year, and I’m looking forward to working together to empower people with disabilities to live full lives as part of our community!
