Dr. Leesha Thrower was recently appointed to the Board of Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services (HCDDS) by Hamilton County Commissioners.
Thrower is the Chair of the Communication and Theater Arts Department at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastern Michigan University, and her doctorate from Bowling Green State University. “It is an honor to have been appointed to serve on the Hamilton County DD Services Board. My professional and personal advocacy provide a unique perspective,” said Thrower. “I am excited to serve and work for the residents of Hamilton County.”
Dr. Thrower has given lectures and presented at conferences about disability and the intersection of race and ability. She lives in Sharonville and has three children, with her youngest having Down syndrome.
“We’re glad to welcome Dr. Thrower to our board and appreciate her commitment to our mission,” said HCDDS Superintendent Leia Snyder. “We’re thankful that she’s willing to share her expertise to support people with disabilities in Hamilton County.”
In addition, commissioners reappointed Dr. Tasha Faruqui to serve another term on our board. Dr. Faruqui has made valuable contributions to our board over her last term and her knowledge and insight during the pandemic has been incredibly helpful.
“I’m grateful for the service of all of our Board members and appreciate their work toward our mission of supporting people with developmental disabilities to live, work, learn, and fully participate in their communities,” added Snyder.
